Indignation Meeting Held – Other Items

• The residents of that part of Kaysville that lies in close proximity to the old mill dam on the new survey, had their usual serenity disturbed last week by an act of Hyrum Stewart in obstructing the road-way across the dam with an obnoxious barbed wire fence.  Some of the interested parties asked  Mr. Stewart if it was his intention to make the obstruction permanent, and they were informed that it most decidedly was.  They objected, and in order to make the kick move efficacious an indignation meeting was held at the Central School house on Saturday evening, for the purpose of getting a consensus of opinion from those who imagined that their rights were being trampled upon and to formulate a protest against the barbed wire impediment.
  There were probably fifty persons present at the meeting.  According to the statements made there the road in question has been used for nearly twenty years and the sentiment was unanimous that  Mr. Stewart should be requested to reopen the road.  Some rather impassioned speeches were made, and the outcome of the meeting was that a committee consisting of T. Francis Rouche, E. M. Knox and E. W. Layton was appointed to see Mr. Stewart and demand that he remove the fence, and in the event of his refusal they were given power to petition the city council to have it taken away.
  Mr. Stewart has not as yet complied with the request of the committee and it is rumored that he does not propose to unless a competent court decides that he must.  So a law-suit is not improbable.
  It is not often that our peace-loving citizens depart from the wellbeaten paths of complacent serenity but when they do something out of the ordinary is sure to happen, and in this case the people who consider they are wronged will no doubt fight the issue to a finish.
• About $90 was cleared from the benefit ball given for the missionaries at the Music hall on Friday evening last.
• The school children were out for a may-walk today.
• Since last Saturday morning we have been enjoying ideal spring weather.
• W. Barnes has taken a trip to Coalville to look after some business interests. In his absence T. H. Phillips is presiding at the cashier’s desk at the Barnes Banking company.             ATCHE BEE
